Winter Sports

Ski and snowboarding slopes are only an hour away from Banchory and are perfect for beginners and more experienced visitors keen to brush up their skills.

A short winter break in the North-east of Scotland is a really good way to try out the sport before committing to a high-cost ski holiday elsewhere in the world.

Why not take a winter break in Banchory and and enjoy a day on the slopes?

  • Snowboarding at Glenshee
  • Climbing Lochnagar

Have you ever fancied cross country skiing? Why not visit the Clashindarroch Ski Trails, near Rhynie, just half an hour's drive from Banchory? Clashindarroch forest is the best snow-holding forest in the UK due to its height above sea level (300 -520m) and the mature trees which help collect then protect snow. The forest averages 40-45 ski-able days each winter. It is the only forest where classic and skate tracks are regularly “groomed” using a track cutter towed by a snowmobile operated by Huntly Nordic Ski Club. Ski conditions, hiring of skis and tuition can be obtained by contacting Huntly Nordic and Outdoor Centre on 01466 794428 or look at their web site (details below).
