SATURDAY EVENTS

10am - 4pm Festival Village - over 70 charity and craft stalls as well as a Farmers Market, come and try sports, children's activities, a labyrinth, food and drink. Full programme of entertainment during the day including the Banchory Pipe Band, Tai Chi demonstration, Guarana Street Drummers and much more. Woodend Barn's Woollen Wonderland will also be featured - see how many creatures you can find!

9am Introduction to Salmon Fishing at Invery/Tilquhillie fishing beats

Join SGAIC qualified instructors, Dee ghillies and River Dee staff for a day of salmon fishing on the River Dee in partnership with Orvis. Meet at 9am at Invery Hut - full details on booking. Open to age 14+, under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. 10am - 12noon Micro Monsters at Burnett Park

Meet some wee woodland beasties, including live moths caught last night for the national Moth Night survey and discover who lives in the pond at Burnett Park! Under 16s must be accompanied. Bring outdoor clothing suited to weather + stout footwear. Event organised by Aberdeenshire Council Ranger Service in partnership with Butterfly Conservation & in support of NE Scotland Biodiversity Partnership ‘Pooling our Ponds’ project as part of the Banchory River Festival: http://www.banchoryriverfestival.co.uk/

Young Inventor Competition - Banchory Museum

To celebrate Scotland's Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design, Banchory Lions and Museum will officially launch this brand new competition for young people. Entry forms will be available from Saturday 11 June from the Banchory Museum on Dee Street, where there will be a small display about inventions and some helpful hints for budding designers. There are two age groups (i) under 10 and (ii) 10 to 14. The invention or design can be realistic and practical, or total fantasy and fairly improbable, it's up to you! The entry MUST be the young person's own efforts, and the winner of each age group will receive a prize & certificate. Both winners and runners up designs will be displayed in the Museum. Closing date is 1 July 2016, judges are former research scientists and engineers with many years of experience between them. 9.45pm Bat Walk (for about an hour)

Sunday events

9 am Bill Burr Cycle Ride from Raemoir Garden Centre to Bellfield Park, Banchory sponsored by Rotary

This is a leisurely 14 mile circular route on quiet tarmac roads and along the Deeside Way starting from Raemoir Garden Centre and finishing at the Guide Lodge. The event is organised by the Rotary Club of Banchory-Ternan as a memorial to former club member and past president Bill Burr who sadly died of cancer last year. Entry is open to all cyclists over 12 years old and will raise funds for UCAN, an Aberdeen-based urological cancer treatment centre at ARI. Registration is £5 per cyclist and participants can contirbute to UCAN by registering on the events JustGiving webpage. Full instructions and a route map will be issued to all participants on registration.

11.30am Duck Race at the Coy Burn, Milton of Crathes - sponsored by the Round Table

Last year 600 ducks made their way down the Coy Burn to the River Dee, will there be more this year? Ducks are £2 each and can be purchased at Tesco on Friday 10 June 5-9pm and Banchory High Street on Sat 11 June 10-3pm

Open Day at Raemoir Trout Fishery

10am -12noon & 1-3pm Sunday 12 June Try Fly Fishing at Raemoir Trout Fishery
Come along and have a look around, chat to fishery staff and try your hand at  fly fishing. We have two sessions running, each one  for six participants. This is an ideal opportunity for youngsters to experience fly fishing. To book a morning or afternoon place, contact Ross Macdonald, on ross@riverdee.org  or 01339 880411.  Full details on booking. 11 am to 4pm Banchory Fire Station Open Day

Vintage fire appliances, police, ambulance and mountain rescue plus a variety of stalls and bouncy castles, refreshment stalls, homebakes, tea and coffee. Junior firefighter obstacle course.Raffle and silent auction on the day, raffle tickets can be purchased at the Festival Village on Saturday 11 June. Facebook - Banchory Fire & Rescue Service.

10am to 4pm Dog Show & Car Boot Sale Milton Events Field, Crathes

Bouncy Castle, Face Painting and Refreshments. £7 per boot or table. Dogs can be entered on the day from 10-12noon. Contact 07903 015716 or vinnycox2000@yahoo.com. Funds raised for Crathes Hall

1pm - 5pm Kincardine Castle Open Garden

2 - 4pm Eco-congregation Walk along the River
Meet at Milton of Crathes car park by Deeside Way path for a pleasant walk along the Deeside Way, returning along the river bank. The walk will take in the scenery, features of wildlife interest and some reflections. It is a 1.5 mile walk on mostly level paths and tracks. There is a single stile to cross near the end of the walk but there will be a car near the stile to give lifts back to the start if needed. Booking essential amsalway@tinyworld.co.uk or 01330 822937 FREE EVENT

3 - 5pm Falconry Display at Banchory Lodge Hotel 
Come down to the hotel's stunning riverside setting and marvel at the majesty of the birds of prey. The display by Huntly Falconry is open to anyone visiting the hotel, there will also be a variety of hot & cold drinks and light refreshments available www.banchorylodge.com FREE EVENT

 

ALL WEEKEND EVENTS

Victorian Steam Weekend at Milton of Crathes station

Deeside Railway at Milton of Crathes will be recreating the 1860s when the Deeside line first opened. Staff will be in period costume and you can ride on a steam train called SALMON! www.deeside-railway.co.uk

Knitting the Bridge

The Banchory bridge over to Strachan will be decorated with a large knitted fish created by local groups.

11am - 4pm The River Dee Exhibition by Butterworth 

The Butterworth Gallery, Ballogie.
Enjoy a special collection of work by Howard & Mary Louise Butterworth featuring the stunning River Dee in its many moods and seasons. New original work by Mary and a touch of retrospective by Howard will make a memorable showcase of work at this family-run gallery. A warm welcome awaits with an opportunity to have a blether with the artists over a fly cup and a fine piece.
