The Visitor Centre, which is open at weekends only, is located in two railway carriages with pleasant views out across the Dee valley. It is possible to walk or cycle to the Royal Deeside Railway from Banchory along the Deeside Way.
The Visitor Centre consists of an exhibition showing the railway in historical times as well as detailing the plans and progress made by the society. A selection of goods are available to purchase and visitors can enjoy refreshments and snacks in comfortable seating, enjoying excellent views out over the Dee valley. During the summer train rides operate on Sunday afternoons.
For over 100 years the Deeside Railway carried passengers and goods from Aberdeen into the heart of Royal Deeside, Scotland. Closed in 1966, a portion of the line is now being brought back to life by the Royal Deeside Railway Preservation Society, allowing families and enthusiasts alike a view into the fascinating way of life in the Victorian Era.
Santa's Grotto is held on before Christmas when families can come along and visit Santa in his railway Grotto, enjoy refreshments in the railway carriage and take a ride on the train. Details are posted in the Events Listing on the home page of this website.
