Banchory and District Men's Shed is open for Social meetings and is in the process of fund-raising for Phase 1 of new premises which will comprise a Workshop. The target for opening Phase 1 is Autumn 2018.

Social meetings for tea, coffee and a blether are held every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. until about 12:00

Meetings are currently "upstairs" at the Legion Scotland in Ramsay Road, Banchory - turn right in the lobby and go past the office to the lounge/ballroom area.  Entrance and membership are both free and all are welcome.  In due course, Phase 2 will comprise our own social premises downstairs in the "undercroft". This is targeted for Spring 2019.  Full planning permission and building warrants have been received for both phases.

About Men's Sheds

The Men’s Shed movement began in Australia and has now spread worldwide.  It is very strong in Scotland, with the Scottish Men's Sheds headquarters also in Banchory.

Men’s Sheds provide a social and practical outlet for men, many of whom might otherwise become isolated - “Sheds” have become recognised as major contributor to the improvement of men’s health and wellbeing in both physical and mental terms.  Men’s Sheds vary but activities typically fall into five areas: community work & activities, health & welfare, educational, recreational and communal.  The Men’s Shed movement recognises the particular challenges men face and for which to date there has been little provision.  Many of these challenges are around life changes such as retirement, social isolation and a lack of established social circles once away from the working environment.  Also important are the isolation and lack of direction which young men can suffer due to, say, long-term unemployment - there is no age limit for a Men's Shed.  Men’s Sheds provide facilities to address needs particular to men and the different ways in which men live, communicate and interact.  A common saying is that “Men don’t talk face to face, they talk shoulder to shoulder”.
